Ogre Hide: Giants Reskinned

There are so many types of giants in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game that ogres often end up overlooked. They're one of the few giant creatures with their own name, rather than just being called [environment] giant, which should be an indicator that they're special. They're my go-to giant, when I have a story or an encounter with that niche to fill. I utilize them as giants of the "Fee-fi-fo-fum" variety, who will grind your bones to bake their bread, among other unsavory and despicable acts they'll inflict upon you. They exist solely to kill, eat, and fulfill their other baser urges. They'll never rise very high on Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

In my own Desteon campaign, as in many fantasy worlds, they are used as shock troops and "tanks" to support the armies of other humanoids. They do this with the promise of rape and pillage. A savvy few begin to realize that war is a pretty good gig, providing amble opportunities to commit atrocities and assuage their dark hungers. They start adapting to the warrior lifestyle. This also serves to leave a legacy of deformity and mutation in their wake (much like the unspoken, unsavory truth about why there are so many half-orcs strewn about the world), seeding the next generation of horror and heartbreak.

With Ogre Hide, I try to demonstrate why getting killed in a battle with one of these creatures isn't the worst thing that could happen, without getting too graphic or explicit. Much like the entry for ogre in the Bestiary, there are forms of terror that are left up to your imagination.
