Halloween One-Shot Ideas for Pathfinder 1e and D&D 5e
Share
Halloween and tabletop RPGs are a natural pairing that somehow still gets underused. Most gaming groups spend October playing the same campaign they've been running all year, when they could be running a spooky one-shot that everyone will remember. If you're looking to do something special for Halloween game night this year, here are some scenarios and supplements worth building around.
For Pathfinder 1e: Lean Into the Gothic
The Gothic Campaign Compendium includes three complete adventures that work perfectly as Halloween one-shots. They're self-contained, atmospheric, and designed to deliver the kind of tension that makes players genuinely nervous about what's behind the next door. Pick one, set the mood with some ambient music and dim lighting, and you've got a Halloween session that requires almost no prep beyond reading the adventure.
For the villain of your one-shot, Unrighteous Villains gives you eight fully detailed antagonists ready to drop in. A Halloween one-shot lives or dies on its villain — having one with real depth and tactics makes the difference between a memorable session and a forgettable one.
For D&D 5e: Mimics and Mayhem
If your group plays 5e, Fifty Magnificently Murderous Mimics is a Halloween gift. Fifty unique mimic variants — each with its own twist on the classic monster — that you can drop into any dungeon or haunted location. Mimics are already one of the most beloved monsters in D&D for their ability to create genuine surprise and paranoia.
Setting the Scene
Whatever system you're running, the atmosphere matters as much as the mechanics on Halloween. A good play mat sets the visual tone — and if your one-shot involves any kind of tactical combat, having a proper surface makes the game feel more like an event. The Grassy Spring Play Mat works for outdoor encounter scenes.
