Advanced Options: Origins of Sorcerous Might

Scions of Sorcerous Strength!

Now on its fifth edition, the world’s oldest roleplaying game presents a number of exciting options to allow players to customize their characters. It seems like just about every class in the game gives players a major choice that can heavily alter the way their character operates, such as a barbarian’s primal path, a paladin’s oath, or a warlock’s pact. While the core rules give every class a handful of these options to choose from, and additional supplements from Wizards of the Coast have provided a few more here and there, there’s no doubt that there’s plenty of room for more of these options to provide you with exciting new approaches to each class, which can give you a some new tricks, allow you to represent flavorful ideas and concepts that had no support previously, or completely turn the class’s basic role on its head. The Advanced Options series is here to give you those new options.

This installment focuses on providing new options for sorcerer characters, in the form of four new sorcerous origins. Draw on the powers of the ocean’s depths with the benthic blood origin, your aquatic heritage adapting you to be better suited for a life beneath the waves, allowing you to speak to aquatic creatures, and even conjure massive tidal waves. Or be one of the fortunate few with the favored origin, one who has been blessed by fate or one of the powers that be, bending chance to suit you at every turn, and even invoking great miracles at high levels. Alternatively, the fey-touched origin grants a number of powers related to the fair folk, including powerful and adaptive glamers, the ability to transport yourself through mushroom rings, and the use of potent and versatile faerie charms and pixie dust. Finally, the frostborn sorcerous origin gives you all the powers of winter, ensuring you are never bothered by cold, can always surround yourself in frost and snow, and ultimately gain the ability to imprison your foes in ice.
